That complaint is not evidence of an imminent product announcement. Huawei has not publicly introduced the Mate 90 series as of August 22, 2026. The available claims about its launch date, processor, cameras, and final design remain rumors.
Yet the controversy exposes a real product problem. Huawei positioned the Mate 80 Pro Max near the top of its conventional smartphone range. It also left visible room above that model through the Mate RS line, the photography-focused Pura family, and future Kirin hardware.
The primary conflict is therefore not Huawei against Apple or another Chinese manufacturer. It is Huawei's current premium promise against the expectations it has created for its next release.
The Mate 80 Pro Max carries HarmonyOS 6, a Kirin 9030 Pro processor, a large direct-view display, and Huawei's second-generation color camera technology. HarmonyOS 7 is already in developer testing. Buyers can reasonably ask what remains for the next Mate beyond a new name.

The phone also has second-generation Kunlun Glass and water-resistance claims covering IP68 and IP69 conditions. Its advertised display can reach 8,000 nits under Huawei's limited peak-brightness test.
Those specifications are unusually ambitious, but each requires context. Peak brightness measured across a tiny display area does not represent continuous full-screen brightness. Laboratory durability comparisons do not guarantee that a dropped phone will survive.
Huawei also says the Pro Max delivers a 42 percent performance improvement over the Mate 70 Pro Plus. That comparison combines a newer processor with HarmonyOS 6 and system-level optimization.
It should not be read as a direct comparison with Apple, Qualcomm, or MediaTek silicon. Huawei's documentation does not establish that the Kirin 9030 Pro leads every competing flagship processor.

The company also says its Xiaoyi assistant can use more than 200 categories of system perception data. That access could support stronger contextual assistance across a phone.
