xAI Launches the Grok for Outlook Add-in, Challenging Copilot on Its Home Turf

xAI launched the Grok for Outlook add-in on July 22, bringing a competing AI agent directly into Microsoft’s flagship email application. The xAI Grok for Outlook add-in summarizes long threads, drafts replies in a user’s style, and helps organize crowded inboxes.

That feature list sounds familiar because Microsoft already offers similar tools through Copilot in Outlook. Grok is therefore entering a workspace where the platform owner controls the interface, enterprise administration, and native AI experience.

That shift raises a direct competitive question. Can an outside AI provider win meaningful work inside Microsoft 365 when Microsoft already bundles Copilot deeply into Outlook?
