Organize with Collections

What is a Collection?
In remio, a collection serves as both a type of note and a container, forming a key part of how high-level knowledge is aggregated and abstracted.

Why Use Collections Instead of Folders or Tags
remio's collections are far more flexible than traditional folders and tags. In remio, not only can one item belong to multiple collections, but one collection can also belong to multiple other collections.
Why is this useful? Imagine you're a salesperson. Each customer can be regarded as a collection, which gathers relevant information about that customer. This collection can belong to multiple superior collections representing a specific industry, city, or quarter (as a benchmark customer for that quarter).
In other situations, you'll always find cases where content needs to be organized through multiple dimensions. If you use folders, since all items can only be placed in one folder, you simply can't organize them multi-dimensionally. If you use tags, the situation might be slightly better, but not by much. Although you can assign multiple tags to a document, you can't assign multiple parent tags to a tag.
Why can Collections Also Have Note Content?
Folders and tags have another shortcoming in that they can't have descriptive content added. However, in many cases, you need to provide an overall description for them because folders and tags usually represent important things. Since folders can't have descriptions added directly, that's why you often see files like README.txt in many places. This is actually a rather clumsy way of adding a description to a folder.
In remio, since collections can have note content, you can naturally add descriptions to them. You can also use the "Add a summary" feature, with the help of AI, to quickly add descriptions to your collections.
How To Create a Collection?
You may wonder why it's not possible to create a collection in remio in the same way as creating a folder. This is because we believe that collections and notes should not be strictly divided into two types. For example, many times you may record a note about a certain topic (such as Tesla). Later, when there is new information about Tesla, the most convenient way is to add this information to the "Tesla" note, allowing "Tesla" to automatically upgrade from an normal note to a collection.
If collections and notes are two different types, in this case, you would need to create a collection named "Tesla", and then add the original note named "Tesla" and the new information to the newly created "Tesla" collection.
remio's design is obviously a more convenient approach. If you want to create a collection in remio, you just need to create a new note. Then, when you add an item to this note, it will automatically become a collection.
Adding Items to a Collection
Users can add all kinds of items, excluding chat, to an existing collection or note by using one of the following two methods.
Method 1: Open the item to be added (aka. the child) and choose "Add to Collection".
Method 2: Open the collection (aka. the parent) and use sublink syntax to add the target to the current collection.
As mentioned before, in remio, an item can be added to multiple collections, and it can also be added to a note. When this happens, the note will automatically become a collection, which is very flexible.
Adding to Collections Using Browser Extension
remio allows you to add web pages directly to a collection in the browser.
Method 1: You can click the right button on the page to call up the system menu and select "Add to Collections" to add it to the remio collection.
Method 2: When using the remio browser extension and the right floating bar is active, you can find an "Add to collections" icon that functions similarly to the right-click method, offering recommendations and the ability to create new collections.

This integration allows for a more efficient workflow for managing research and information gathered from the web by directly organizing it into relevant collections.
Using AI Suggestions for Collections
remio may recommend a proper existing or new collection based on the item’s content, so Users can add an item to a collection with one click.

Viewing and Accessing Collections
Collections are displayed as cards in All, alongside other kinds of notes. You can choose to view only collections by check "Collections" in the filter at the upper-right corner.

Removing Items from Collection
Their are two methods to remove an item from a collection:
Method 1: Open the item to be removed (aka. the child). Hover on the collection to be removed from and choose "Remove link." from the card of collection.
Method 2: Open the collection to be removed from (aka. the parent). Find the item to be removed from the list of items. Hover on that item and choose "Remove link." from the card of that item.
Using Collections with Smart Features
Collections and items they contain are automatically considered as reference material when users use remio’s “Ask” or “Smart Writing” features. This ensures organized content enhances these tools.
